The sun is out for the school sports day. However, the youngest was awake last night, worrying about the obligatory running race.
Today I’m wondering if the running race still has a useful place, teaching the children about physical training and accepting the occasions you don’t come first. Or whether it’s just another outdated form of physical and gender discrimination.
Anyhow, we talked it over last night, and this morning all was well again in the world, at least for a little while. Perhaps acknowledging the discomfort was what mattered.
