‘You can be as autistic as you like’ was the tag line our family adopted during these summer holidays. And the results have been quite dramatic.
My daughter has had less meltdowns, less masking, less pretending not to feel anxious, less pressure to fit in and ‘be normal’. And seemingly quite happy just being herself.
Also quite a dramatic experience as a parent. Less feeling I had to explain or excuse behaviour to other people and more able to ask for accommodations when needed (big thank you to Marwell Zoo for letting us skip the massive line).
Overall, more enjoyment of being a family and having fun together.
